Muhammad is both a religious figure for starting a religion and a war figure because he was able to lead an army. He is more of a religious figure because his religious accomplishments are more well known than his accomplishments in wars.
I think he was both a religious and war figure even though he is mostly know for his role in Islam. I say this because he led an army which put him in a place to be able to spread religion.
I feel like Mohammed, while his main mission was to spread the word of God, people only really started following his message after he won the battle over the Meccans. While I think Mohammed's viewed his own mission as religious, he only gained stature after his military actions.
I think that Muhammad is more of a religious figure. He is more known more for is religious and spiritual message than his battles.
