I think that Muhammad was different than other religious leaders because he was able to do what some would consider "sinful." If you look at Jesus he said to turn the other cheek because he didn't believe that you should be violent. On the other hand, Muhammad was able to fight because he wasn't a direct descendant of god.Because he was able to fight he impressed and appealed to more people.
I think that he was different from other religious figures because he was not a god, like Jesus was seen as. Muhammad was only a prophet, and could speak to God. He was born as a regular human. This allowed him to sin, which was the reason that he could lead in fighting battles.
